Cloverleah Pack Book 5.
One of the things that was difficult in writing this book is that the readers of the previous books in the series already knew that Dean had suffered abuse before he came to Cloverleah. So although this still needed to be a mating story, Dean’s past had to be taken into consideration as well. In this scene, Dean has decided what he wants to do, but Matthew – well, he is an Alpha wolf after all 🙂
Unable to help himself, so damned happy now that his little mate was apparently safe, all Matthew could do was laugh, and laugh, and laugh, his arms loosely holding the wiggling wolf, his hands stroking down Dean’s fur. Dean was hell bent on smothering Matthew’s face, neck and chest in his scent, and Matthew didn’t care, even though he kept getting a mouthful of fur.
“Dean, little one, please,” Matthew finally gasped out, still breathless from laughing so much. “Shift, please. Let me see that you’re okay.”
The little grey wolf woofed at him and seconds later Matthew was wearing a Dean-sized blanket. When hot, dry lips hit his, Matthew was in heaven, and for the first time in three long days, he felt at peace. Running his hands over Dean’s naked body, Matthew couldn’t feel any signs of injury, although anything minor would have been healed when Dean had shifted. Although his little mate was slimmer than ever, it didn’t look like Dean had suffered too much.
Unable to help himself, Matthew cupped his hands around Dean’s pert ass and gently ran a finger over Dean’s still tight little hole. Thank God. Dean stopped kissing him long enough to pop his head up and say quite clearly, “I’m okay. Now kiss me.”
Matthew was going to do just that, when he caught sight of a strange mark on Dean’s throat. Unable to help himself, he ran his finger over it and growled deeply. No one should be allowed to put a mark on Dean’s neck except him and because the mark had stayed, despite his mate shifting, it meant it was paranormal and permanent. He growled again.
“Who dared mark you?” He growled. Dean stared deep into his eyes for a moment, and then sat up, straddling Matthew’s hips, his cock hard and leaking onto Matthew’s abdomen. Matthew wasn’t in a much better state behind his jeans, but that mark had thrown him and bought out every possessive cell in his body.
“Wow, way to go from happy and horny, to grumpy and grouchy in five seconds flat,” Dean said pertly. “Since you asked so nicely, Aelfric and Fafnir, the men who rescued me from Kylan, and who sent me home, gave me a Fae present. It warns others that I am not to be harmed, and it is a way of getting in touch with them if I’m in danger. I’ve been given the protection of the Sidhe.”
“Why?” Now Matthew was suspicious. Fae were notorious for being cunning and the ones he had met couldn’t be trusted. Dean looked at him again for a long minute and then he stood up.
“Fine,” he said and this time Matthew didn’t miss the bite in his mate’s voice. “You might as well call the pack, so I only have to tell my story once. I’m hungry, thirsty, dirty and tired, and all I wanted to do, when I got home, was be fucked and claimed by the mate I have missed so much it hurt. But you want to talk, then fine, we will talk. Call Kane and I will go and get myself something to eat and a shower.” And with that Dean stalked off into the house, slamming the door behind him.
Matthew lay stunned on the ground for a minute. Why had his little mate gotten so angry? He was an Alpha wolf and perfectly entitled to get a bit grumpy when his unclaimed mate turns up marked by someone else. Matthew ran what Dean had said to him, before he stalked off, through his brain trying to work out what he had done wrong – call the pack…hungry, yeah that’s understandable…wanted to be fucked and claim but you want to talk…call pack…eat and shower. Hang on. Sitting up, Matthew thought through the whole thing again. Nope. He hadn’t misheard anything. His mate had wanted to have actual sex with him, and be claimed, and Matthew had gotten hissy about a stupid mark on his mate’s neck. He’d turned down the offer of anal sex with his mate for the very first time, damn it, for a freaking mark!
Groaning and shaking his head at his own stupidity, Matthew pulled out his phone and called Kane. Hopefully the talking wouldn’t take long, and he could see if he could get his mate back into a claiming state of mind. He had wanted to plough that tight little body since the moment he had laid eyes on Dean. The fact that he’d been too distracted by other, petty things, when it was actually offered to him for the first time, made Matthew want to hit his head repeatedly against a brick wall.
The book is on Amazon Kindle and will be on ARe and Smashwords later this week 🙂
