Writing sexy scenes all day can certainly make you tired. Both of my books were due for sex scenes today and I am sure the last 1000 words took longer to write than the other 4K I managed to get done today. I know they will need extensive editing tomorrow, but all I wanted to do today was set the mood, the tone and of course the action. I’ll worry about flow tomorrow.
I start every writing day by going over the work I have done the day before. It helps me to reconnect with the story and what my characters are feeling. One of the most important things to me is that the story flows naturally, so I quite often read out loud what I have written to make sure my sentence structure matches the mood I’m trying to create with my words. I think that is even more important when writing sex scenes – I am a firm believer in my characters having an emotional as well as sexual connection, and that is partially reflected in the way a scene reads.
I’m managing to keep up with my goals. Get off my Case is now at just over 49,000 words (from 21K) and Getting Close to the Omega (Book 5 of the Cloverleah Pack) is now at 38,374. I am averaging 4,000 – 5,000 words per day, but I am conscious of the fact that I am only at Day 12 and there is still a long way to go until the end of the month.
How are you doing? Feel free to brag in the comments below. I’m off to get some much needed sleep.
