Book 4 – Stockton Wolves Series
Trent Summers keeps a smile on his face, even though he feels like he’s dying inside. Since he was horribly knifed by a killer bear he’s had trouble with anxiety and panic attacks. Knowing most of his friends are shifters and immune to such things doesn’t help. Mace’s mating with Roan gives him some hope, but a mate of his own is just a pipe dream. In the meantime, he has to put aside his fears and help his friends find rogue vampires – not exactly a cure for stress.
Prince Alexi Vandermot is getting more than a little pissed off at his coven leader. There are rogue vampires in town and he’s ready to hunt them down. The problem is, his cousin keeps saying no. Things aren’t improved when the police come to call, bringing a consultant with them. Shifters are one thing, but Alexi is floored to find the consultant is his mate…human, scared and straight.
Claiming a mate is one thing; keeping him safe is another. When the rogues are found to have family ties to the coven and one of them fancies a bite out of Trent, the coven and the pack have to work together to make sure the body count doesn’t get any higher. When problems start to erupt inside of the coven as well, Alexi wonders if he’ll ever have any time to get to know his anxious mate.
Warning: This book is M/M, contains graphic content and coarse language. Trent suffers from panic attacks which some people might find a trigger and keep an eye on Kalel; he’s taken to stealing hats.
Trent raised a finger; at least he thought he did, but his vision was blurry so it was hard to tell. A man’s face appeared in front of him and Trent squinted. The bartender. Awesome. He pointed to his empty glass.
“I think you’ve had enough, buddy,” the bartender said. “Let me call you a cab.”
Trent huffed. If only he could get his finger straight. “Just one…one…one for the road,” he slurred. He knew he was slurring and that wasn’t a good sign, but damn it. The elephant hadn’t shifted from his chest and his legs were noodlefied.
“I’m good for it,” he managed to add when the bartender showed no signs of moving. He stabbed at the collection of bills and coins in front of him.
“Definitely the last….”
“My friend won’t be needing it. I’ll see he gets home safely,” a strong voice cut in and Trent tried to turn in his seat. The voice was vaguely familiar but his jellied legs weren’t cooperating; nor were his arms which slid across the bar until he was up close and personal with the wood grain.
“Let me help you up.”
Is he laughing at me? Trent couldn’t tell, but suddenly his butt lost the stool, and his face hit a solid chest. Ooh, electricity. Trent tried to push off the solid pecs under his hands, but his fingers tangled in the shirt instead. He tilted his head back, waited until the blur cleared for an instant.
“Hey, you’re…” Trent rubbed his nose; his finger was cold. “Don’t tell me…I know this…who the hell are you, guy. Nope…blue and gray tile guy…yeah, that one.”
“Do you know this man, Mr. Summers? I can call you a cab.” The bartender hovered.
“No…no.” Trent shook his head. His vision blurred again. But there was something…something…. “Him and me; him and me, we’re going to be…gonna be…buddies.” That didn’t sound right. “Pals? No. What’s the word?” He looked up; those blue-gray eyes were staring right at him. Wow, what amazing eyes.
“I know what you mean,” the man said. He added a few bills to Trent’s collection and then Trent found his feet dangling in the air.
“I need to know that word,” he said against the man’s chest. At least he thought that’s what he said, but Trent couldn’t be sure. The elephant was gone, but his stomach was threatening to eject its contents. As a splash of fresh air hit Trent’s nose, he got a lump in his throat and he quickly slapped a hand over his mouth.
“Ungh, ungh, ungh.”
Big arms swung him around as though it was no effort at all, and Trent’s eyes recognized grass at the same time his stomach erupted. Trent was powerless to do anything but let his body get rid of the wonderful buzz he’d spent hours perfecting. By the time his stomach said “enough” Trent knees were chilled from the concrete, and sweat covered his face.
“Damn.” A white cloth appeared in front of his face. Who the heck carries a handkerchief anymore? Nope. Trent wasn’t going to complain, especially when a bottle of water appeared in the same manner. After wiping his face, and rinsing out his mouth, Trent thought about standing up, but decided against it. He did manage to tilt his head. A large solid shape was framed in the street lamp.
“Alexi,” he said, his throat rough. “Your name’s Alexi and we’re mates.”
“That’s right,” Alexi agreed, “and you decided to get drunk instead of meeting us for dinner.”
There was a nagging voice in the back of Trent’s head; you’re naked in bed with a man and he’s doing stuff, but he ignored it. Yes; he’d only bedded women. He’d always enjoyed himself, and he wasn’t going to disparage any of his previous partners, even mentally, by comparing them to the way Alexi made him feel. But he couldn’t deny there was a difference; a big and thoroughly wonderful difference and Trent didn’t know if it was because Alexi was male, a paranormal, or if it was because they were mates, but he didn’t care. He was flying.
Rough hands firm on his skin; Alexi’s weight pinning him to the bed and leaving him helpless. When Alexi’s lips finally left his mouth a bruised mess and edged across his jaw, Trent arched his neck giving his mate access. It was a heady feeling, not being in charge; letting someone else take the reins and bring him pleasure. Alexi wasn’t content with simply mouthing his neck. Those wicked lips carved a path of wanton destruction from his collarbone to his hips and by the time Alexi got there, Trent was a writhing mess; panting, his torso littered with hickeys, horny as fuck and struggling to cope with the overload of sensations.
“Lube?” Alexi murmured against his skin after raising a sharp bruise on his hip bone.
Trent couldn’t think. “Er…er…”
Alexi grinned and faster than Trent’s eyes could map, he was gone and back; a couple of packets in his hand. “We don’t need condoms,” Alexi explained, “in fact, with a claiming we can’t use them. But I won’t take you without lube.”
The implication of what Alexi was about to do finally rang the warning bell front and center in Trent’s head. He froze; the dripping from his cock his only movement.
“Trust me,” Alexi’s voice was guttural. “I would never hurt you. Now breathe out.”
“And again.” Trent inhaled sharply and then let his breath out in one long sigh. Moist warmth surrounded his cock and he yelled, fisting the coverlet. He’d had blowjobs before, but nothing like this. No hesitation; Alexi took his cock down to the root and swallowed. The pressure was more than Trent could handle. He wanted…he wanted so damn much, and by the time he felt something piercing his ass, he was too busy humping Alexi’s mouth to worry about it. Sticky warmth; hard fingers scissoring his most private part. Not even a doctor had been there before, but Trent’s body was on fire. Every muscle, every thought, every fiber of his being was caught up in a sexual spell only an orgasm could break. He teetered on the edge of something epic, but something was holding him back and he groaned his frustration at the ceiling.
“It’s time.” Trent’s cock cooled as the air hit it, but lost none of its hardness at Alexi’s words.
“Now. Please do it now,” he panted. Sex was warmth and comfort, with a pleasurable tingle at the end. This…Trent had no words. He was consumed; it was frightening and yet it was the most alive Trent’d ever felt.
A pillow was shoved under his butt; Alexi loomed above him. “Ready to be mine?” Trent didn’t need to be a mind reader to know how important the next few minutes would be. The tension was etched on Alexi’s face.
“Yes.” Trent closed his eyes as a fat bulge pushed at his hole. His tensing was automatic.
“Watch me,” Alexi ordered and Trent’s eyes flew open. Alexi’s eyes flashed red. “Breathe and push out.”
Push out? But…. Trent refused to let his mind go there. Mesmerized by the flickers of red in his mate’s eyes, Trent willed his body to obey.
